Accountability: "Priority Number One" In Health

What the Pro's are saying about best health practices.

Fitness is an essential part of our complete health physically, emotionally, mentally, relationally, thought life, perspective, etc

How you see and think about yourself affects how you see others, life, circumstances and your responses to challenges and opportunities.

 Fun Fact:

For every pound you lose, it is equal to four pounds off of your joints.

Diet and Exercise go hand in hand on the Journey to reducing/eliminating the need for medication. It is now the preferred treatment for diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol, mental health such as depression, and anxiety.

What are people really looking for and what do people really need to accomplish their goals? Accountability.

Dr. Mokureddy stated that at first you may not want to be vulnerable in community but by taking that first step you will find that community, family and partnerships were really vital to your success. Journey 333 provided a...

A Machine That Keeps You Alive...

At Journey we are always doing things that other gyms don't do.  For example we include nutrition, we track you down when you don't show up and we like to partner with other health professionals to bring you more resources.

We have amazing healthcare providers in our community who work hard every day to positively impact the health of our local residents.  We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Janet Farwell who is a Perfusionist.  She has been doing her job for over 30 years.  In the interview,  Janet told us about the machine that she runs and this machine essentially keeps patients alive.

A perfusionist is a healthcare professional who operates the cardiopulmonary bypass machine (heart–lung machine) during cardiac surgery and other surgeries that require cardiopulmonary bypass to manage the patient's physiological status.

We asked Janet her opinions on the problems that we try to solve with diet and exercise and Janet...

All In with the Railhouse & Josh Cassidy

What does Journey Fitness have in common with a local business that has a 5lb burger and 30 tap beer system? The answer is they both have a Wall of Fame.

At Journey you get on the Wall of Fame when you hit your weight loss goal.  We make a before and after poster and share your story to inspire others.

At the Railhouse you can get on the Wall of Fame if you eat the entire 5lb Freight Train burger!  If you fail you end up on the Wall of Shame.

This brings us to a reciprocal relationship that we can have with the Railhouse. You can put the calories in at the Railhouse and take the calories out at Journey Fitness!

Still don't be misled, the Railhouse isn’t just about overeating. They also have a unique Fitness Menu created by local gyms including Journey Fitness. The fitness menu offers salads, cauliflower pizza, lettuce wrapped cheeseburgers, and Romaine BLT boats.

Our members know that fitness isn’t just about the gym –...

Are You Compensating?

muscle fascia Aug 29, 2019

At Journey, we never recommend something that we haven't tried or at least investigated thoroughly.

Interestingly in this attached video you will see our very own Cyndy Barnes getting treated by a Physical Therapist that we often recommend.  The name of the Physical Therapist is Dr Chris Capilli.  In the video he teaches us that many times in life, the problem is not the problem. In fact, sometimes what reveals itself as pain is actually an indication of another problem.

When you're doing a lot of exercise, a lot of ballistic or jumping movement, it's very easy for a muscle to break down but your body is very smart, it wants to get from point A to point B and it still finds a way to do so. Even in the absence of muscles that are strong enough to do the thing that you are trying to do, your body will still find a way to get the job done.  The negative side effect is that we start to compensate, and by compensating we start to wear and tear muscles that are not...

How's Your Sleep?

At Journey we believe in a whole approach which means fitness coaching, nutritional counseling and recovery.

An important part of recovery is sleep.  There is a problem affecting the sleep of about 100 million people and that problem is called sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night's sleep, you might have sleep apnea. The main types of sleep apnea are: Obstructive sleep apnea, the more common form that occurs when throat muscles relax.

Of the 100 million people that sleep apnea affects only 10% of those people end up being diagnosed.  And what's worse than that is other associated health effects of sleep apnea.  This sleep problem can truly compound.  Take a look at the diagram below for a list of associated health risks

At Journey 333 we recognize that it is beyond our scope...

Recovery - The Third Component

Uncategorized Jul 12, 2019

Journey 333 is now bringing you more! Bulletproof recovery is here!

What is Bulletproof recovery?  It focuses on improving the health of your muscle fascia and thereby improves your recovery from exercise.

The reason to improve your recovery is because without recovery there are no results from the workout.

Maybe you are still wondering what exactly is muscle fascia?  Think of fascia as the most sensitive, highly interconnected system in the entire body.  Without fascia, toned and structured muscle would turn to hamburger meat, organs would spread like wildfire and bones would crumble, as fascia is the single element that organizes and suspends these parts of the body. It's the most highly innervated tissue, sensitive to every hormone in your system, recoiling with every bump and bruise sustained.

Our understanding of fascia in modern science will revolutionize how we exercise, how surgeons operate, how athletes train and how we address pain management. Fascia...

Happy 4th of July - How We All Fight

As we prepare for one of the BEST holidays of the year, I want to take a moment to say, “THANK YOU” to all of our armed forces past and present who have bravely fought and defended our nation’s FREEDOM.

We sure are fortunate to live in a place where we have the FREEDOM to work, play, and live as we desire. #Gratitude

In the movie “A Few Good Men” Lt. Weinberg asks Gallloway concerning the soldiers on trial “Why do you like them so much?” to which Galloway replies “Because they stand on a wall and say, “Nothing’s going to hurt you tonight, not on my watch”.

That really sums it up.  This is what every soldier feels called to do.  Too often we take for granted that we are the strongest nation in the world.  We live securely enjoying our freedom sometimes forgetting where it comes from.

On the 4th of July we celebrate our independence as a country and we get to celebrate it because...

Memorial Day - Celebrate Honor Remember

Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

That’s just the facts but what is the heart of the matter?  What did it take for us to celebrate this holiday? To name a few things it took love, heroism and sacrifice. To quote John 15:13 “There is no greater love than this that a man should lay down his life for his friends”

One great example of this happened on December 4th, 2006, “McGinnis was on patrol with a convoy, manning the .50-caliber machine gun on his [Humvee]. During a surprise attack on a narrow side street, a fragmentation grenade...
